Axim Traditional Council Sets August 16 For Kundum Festival Launch, Calls On Ghanaians To Celebrate Culture
AXIM, Western Region — The Axim Traditional Council has officially announced Saturday, August 16, 2026 as the date for the grand launching of this year’s Axim Kundum Festival celebration.
In a statement released ahead of the event, the Council called on Ghanaians both at home and in the diaspora to join the people of Axim for what it described as a “cultural celebration of pride, unity and heritage.”
The announcement comes as anticipation builds across the Western Region for one of Ghana’s most colorful traditional festivals.
"This Year Will Be one the greatest of all time"
Council members noted that last year’s Kundum was massive, but organizers are promising an even bigger experience in 2026.
Key highlights expected include the much-anticipated Saturday Youth Jam and Kundum Gala, which organizers say will be “the greatest you have ever experienced.”
The festival is also expected to showcase traditional drumming, dancing, food, and the rich customs that define the people of Axim and Nzema culture.
A Call To Come Home*
The Traditional Council is urging all citizens, tourists, and members of the Ghanaian diaspora to return to Axim for the festivities.
“Come to Axim and feel the love and custom of Ghanaians and our rich culture,” the Council said in its invitation.
Kundum is celebrated annually to mark the end of harvest and to offer thanks. It also serves as a platform to promote tourism, local businesses, and cultural preservation in the Nzema area.
What To Expect
The August 16 launch at Axim will officially kick off one mouth ban on noise making leading up to the main durbar. Traditional authorities, government officials, and cultural groups are expected to be in attendance.
With preparations already underway, stakeholders say this year’s Kundum will focus on youth engagement, cultural education, and economic opportunities for the people of Axim and beyond.
The Axim Kundum Festival 2026 launching takes place on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at Axim.
