To my people of Sudan,
As the International Youth Network for United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 Special Envoy for Africa, I stand in solidarity with you during this tumultuous time. The ongoing conflict has caused unimaginable suffering, and it's imperative that we work together to bring about peace.
I urgently call upon all parties involved to establish an immediate ceasefire, putting an end to the senseless killing and violence that has ravaged your nation. The protection of children and women is of utmost importance, and it's our collective responsibility to ensure their safety and well-being.
The humanitarian crisis unfolding in Sudan is dire, with over 400 people killed, 3,700 injured, and thousands displaced. The international community is committed to supporting you, but we must work together to create a conducive environment for peace and development.
I echo the sentiments of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, who emphasized that the fighting must stop immediately, and a sustained ceasefire with a monitoring mechanism must be established. It's crucial that we support the Sudanese people's demands for peace, the restoration of civilian rule, and a democratic transition.
To achieve lasting peace, we must prioritize:
Immediate Ceasefire
An end to hostilities, allowing for humanitarian access and the protection of civilians.
Inclusive Dialogue
A commitment to peaceful negotiations, involving all stakeholders, to address the root causes of the conflict.
Protection of Civilians Ensuring the safety and well-being of children, women, and all civilians affected by the conflict.
Let us work together to build a peaceful Sudan, where the rights and dignity of all citizens are respected. I stand in solidarity with you and reaffirm our commitment to supporting your journey towards peace and stability.
May peace prevail in Sudan.
